This family fell in love with the location of and view from their new home, but not so much with their outdated kitchen and bathrooms. They worked with an architecture firm on some revised layouts, and brought Modernous in to help them ensure that the finishes complemented the mid-century pedigree of the home.
We worked with them to create cohesive and unique designs that give a nudge and a wink to the time period when their home was built, while providing the functionality expected from a modern home. The entire project kicked off with the client’s desire to pay homage to the existing pink bathroom and we worked from there to create a fun, mid-century color and finish palette that wasn’t too “on-the-nose”. The large-scale terrazzo countertops were used throughout to provide some cohesion, and we worked to ensure that they complemented both bathrooms and the kitchen.
We kept the kitchen to fairly minimal textures and colors to maintain the focus on the gorgeous views, and the bold wallpaper in the walk-in pantry serves as a counter point to that, tying in the colors we used throughout the project. The kids bathroom also got some fun mid century wallpaper in an otherwise modern and minimal space that oozes function!
