Edmonds Beach house

When our clients purchased this 1971 Edmonds home, they were immediately drawn to its original architecture and unmistakable 1970s character. Rather than erase those features, they wanted to celebrate them. After partnering with an architect on structural updates and space planning, they came to Modernous with a clear goal: preserve the home’s unique personality while thoughtfully updating it for modern living and entertaining.

Using the architectural plans as a foundation, Modernous reimagined the finishes throughout the home. We developed a palette and material story that honored the home’s era (and fireplace!) while feeling fresh, elevated, and relevant for today. Once the construction details were finalized, we collaborated with the clients on a complete furniture package for the main living spaces, ensuring every layer of the design felt intentional and connected.

The result is a home that feels both timeless and current—one that respects the original vision while embracing contemporary comfort and style. Inspired by the natural stone fireplace, the interiors are grounded in warm browns, rich wood tones, and golden hues. Accents of blue and green reference the sweeping views of the Puget Sound, framed by the home’s dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows.

From finishes and fixture selections to furniture, styling, and final details, Modernous guided the design at every stage, creating a cohesive vision that carried seamlessly from construction through completion.
