Perched above Magnolia, this 1953 residence designed by Seattle architect David McKinley provided the perfect foundation for a thoughtful refresh. The homeowners came to Modernous seeking design guidance for their bathrooms, with the goal of honoring the home's original mid-century modern architecture while embracing their love of bold color, pattern, and playful design.
What began as a finish consultation quickly evolved into a comprehensive reimagining of all four bathrooms, along with a refresh of the kitchen. Modernous selected every finish, from flooring and lighting to semi-custom cabinetry, terrazzo countertops, and graphic tiles and wallpaper, carefully balancing timeless mid-century influences with a fresh, contemporary perspective.
The result is a home that feels authentic to its architectural roots while celebrating the personality of the homeowners—a vibrant, modern interpretation of a Pacific Northwest mid-century classic.
